Match Report: Tadley Calleva vs Alton

After a fantastic 2-1 win on Saturday, Danny Dolan and his side were looking to build on that win. Alton were the visitors and Tadley had managed to beat them 6-1 last season so were looking for more of the same. This time the fixture was in the North Hampshire Senior Cup Quarter Final and Tadley were looking to progress to the Semi Finals.

Tadley started well with an early free kick and corner but they were both defended well by the away side. Alton then had successive corners and on the second, the ball managed to get to Matt Bunyan who beat Sean O'Brien to put Alton one nil up. Tadley had no need to worry though as they still had 85 minutes to get a goal back.

There was almost an instant reply for the home side as Cameron George picked the ball up just outside of the Alton box and released a powerful shot. The Alton goalkeeper got down well and managed to hold onto the effort. On the 18-minute mark, George had another chance as a brilliant cross from Thorne was attacked by the striker but couldn't divert his header the right side of post.

Ten minutes before half time, a mistake from Walsh gifted Alton an opportunity on goal. Scott Sanderson picked the ball up and slotted it just under the body of the onrushing O'Brien.

Tadley went into the break 2-0 down at half time with plenty of work to do to progress to the next round.

Dolan made his first change of the night at half time taking Thorne off for Phillips who was making his return into the Tadley squad. The second half was Tadley on the attack trying to get a goal back but they couldn't create any clear cut opportunities to get a one back.

In the 68th minute, O'Brien was called into action as he had to palm over his bar, however, a minute later it was his mistake which lead to Bunyan's second goal. His poor kick found the striker around 25 yards out from the Tadley goal. Bunyan's shot took a deflection but found its way into the bottom corner. With 20 minutes left it was looking near impossible for Tadley to get back into this.

Tadley's constant pressure finally paid off as captain Shaun Dallimore slotted in just outside the 6-yard box, giving his side a sliver of hope as they had 15 minutes to get two more goals. The final 15 minutes was constant attacking for Tadley but they just couldn't get another.

To make matters worse, in the second minute of injury time, Alton had a corner. Instead of holding it there, they opted to cross and Graham's cross found George Spiers who headed in. The game finished 4-1, leaving Tadley going out of the North Hants Senior Cup at the Quarter Final stage.
