Tadley Calleva 2018 Review

As the year draws to a close, we look back on what has been a hugely successful calendar year for Tadley Calleva. After promotion from the Sydenhams Wessex Division 1 in May, Tadley have made a strong start to their inaugural season in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division. Tadley started the year strong with an emphatic 6-1 win over Alton, with Brett Denham scoring four. To finish of the year, Danny Dolan’s men faced Shaftsbury losing 3-1. Denham scored the last goal for Tadley in 2018 and will be looking to continue this into 2019.

The highest win of the year came back in March as Tadley beat Ringwood Town 7-0. Brett Denham and James Tennant both scored hat-tricks and Daryll Phillips completed the scoring. In 2018, Tadley have won a total of 23 games, drawing 7 and losing 16. This calendar year, Dolan’s side scored 100 goals and conceded 75 with Brett Denham scoring 34 goals. Sam Hamilton got the next highest with 14 and Daryll Phillips got 9 to take third place in the goal scoring charts. The highest scoring month came in March scoring 20 goals in 5 games averaging 4 goals a game! However, the most conceded in a month was in October when 19 goals were scored against Tadley. The most wins a row this year was 9 wins starting 13thMarch and ending away to Fawley on the 23rdApril.

Two very notable results this year were both games against table-topping Sholing. The first game came in the League Cup back in August. Top goalscorer Brett Denham got the winner and beat the team who were favourites to get promotion. The second game was in December and Sholing were on a 14 game winning streak in the league. Tadley were on for a shock win after George Hallahan scored after 51 minutes to give the home side the lead. However, Dan Mason equalised but the game finished 1-1 ending the 14 game winning streak. Tadley are one of only two teams to have beaten Sholing this year. The other team are Slough Town who are in the National League South.

It has been a fantastic year on and off the pitch, having won promotion and having a great year in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division. Off the pitch, the link between the Tadley Calleva Youth Section and the Tadley Calleva Senior Section became stronger meaning more players from the Youth Section were given minutes in the First Team, Reserves, “A” Team and the Under 21’s. This bodes well for the future as many youngsters are getting more experience at the Men’s Game.

From all of us at Tadley Calleva we want to thank you for your continued support and going into the New Year, we would like more of the same. Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you once more on Saturday 5thJanuary 2019 at 3:00pm against Bashley.
